Dog Sledding - Group Tour

Operated By: Alpine Adventures Dog Sledding

Activity Description

Tours run every day all season, snow or shine! Distance covered: 6 miles

There are 6 adult seats per dogsled tour.  A child may be added to a full tour of 6 adult drivers as the child will only be allowed to ride in the sled basket and will not impact the drive time of any of the adults on the tour.  Two people ride on the dogsled at a time, one driving the dog sled, one riding in the basket, while the other guests ride on a sleigh that is pulled by the guide on a snowmobile out in front of the dog team. Periodically, we stop and switch out drivers and riders so that all of the adults get an opportunity to drive the dog sled and ride in the basket. (See photo above for a visual).  We will book out any remaining seats of the tour unless you choose to make your tour private (see paragraph below).

We have multiple dogsled departure times to suit your needs.

Do you want your family to have the dogsled all to yourselves?  You can make your tour Private by reserving the entire dogsled tour.  This allows you to have as many or as few people on the tour as you like, with a maximum of 6 total people.  This is a popular option for parties of 4 adults that want to be together on the same tour (4 adults cannot ever go on one tag sled tour together, they would have to split up).  By opting for the Private Group Tour option, regardless of how few people you bring, no one else will be added to your tour.  This allows more drive and ride time for each person as there could potentially be fewer people on the tour to share with, depending on the size of your party.

Tours depart between 8:45 am-3:30 pm daily.

You will be with your guide for 1 hour and 20 minutes from start to finish and on the trails for one hour.

We reserve the right to modify tours as needed for the safety of our dogs.

My husband and I visited Alpine Adventures Dogsledding on our honeymoon almost 15 years ago and I knew we had to come back with our daughters on our winter vacation! Our guide, Jake, was very knowledgeable about dogsledding and his team of pups. He gave great instructions and made us feel confident in our novice skills. The views while sledding are breathtaking! If you’re looking for a unique activity to do while in Colorado, don’t miss out on the experience Alpine Adventures can give you!

We came up from Denver for the day with a family of 5. Jake, our tour guide, took us out with his sweet dog team. It was a fun experience and everyone got to "drive" the sled. Great day!

Last Saturday travelled 1.5 hours from Vail for the tour and after much discussion upon arriving was told that the equipment was not functioning so we could not go on tour. Was told by person assisting us that we would be refunded. After we left I was then informed that we could not be refunded when I called to follow up. Arrived on time and travelled very far out of our way to try and go, was disappointed to not be allowed to go, and paid in full anyway.

Cute dogs who love to run and great scenery. Driving the sled was very enjoyable. Even got to meet the dogs afterwards! When the sky is clear, you can see a large portion of the surrounding mountain range. Well worth the drive from Denver!

Profoundly upset. This is NOT A 1-HOUR dog sled ride as promised. Totally misrepresented. I paid $636 for 4 people and drove 5 hours. We each got just under 10 minutes in the sled. They put you on a rundown old “sleigh” pulled by a horrible, noisy snow mobile, then 6 people take turns watching each other ride. It was a flat circle track in a cow pasture. NO trails, NO trees, NO hills, NO stop for refreshments like the other Vail-area tours we have done and loved. We arrived to see dilapidated kennels and barns with roofs falling in and dogs were ON CHAINS in pens. The very brief ride was SLOW, SLOW SLOW with just 8 small dogs pulling. Other area sledders have 10-12 larger dogs and you sled the ENTIRE HOUR as they promise and fly through beautiful trails in the woods—up and down hills. And there is NO awful noisy snowmobile ruining everything. This tour was a TOTAL RIP OFF. Again---we only got a 10-min, slow ride in a circle in a flat field. Ridiculous. TOTALLY misrepresented on the website and in advertising. Bad experience but I highly recommend trying sledding in the Vail area with another provider. The only positive comment is that our guide was friendly and informative.

As many others have said, incredibly trashy and rude front desk office. They operate out of a hovel consisting of a bunch of rundown sheds (think trailer park but with wooden structures). The woman at the front desk shouldn’t be interacting with human beings at all (let alone working at a front desk). She is an unpleasant and strange person who just called me shouting and demanding that I immediately show up at her shed to sign some papers. it’s a shame because the dogs are sweet and our guide was just lovely. It would be great if they can replace their operations so nobody has to interact with the creeps that currently run it. It’s a scam to charge people this much money to interact with a bunch of obnoxious hillbillies at a front desk.

This tour was great! Everyone who assisted us was great. We amazingly ended up in a small group (because the other groups scheduled were very late). The dogs were very friendly. The pre-ride briefing was very straightforward and easy to follow. Yes, you’re only driving on a Giant twisty turny track but if you take those turns at a higher speed you understand why they don’t take Novice riders through the woods. We had a blast. Our group consisted of 3 girls and the tour guide Beckah (props to her). Which worked out perfect we had one friend driving the sled, one riding in the sled, and one on the sleigh behind the snowmobile guide taking pictures. Addressing the other reviews: Yes the dogs are on chains in the kennels, BUT if you knew anything about that breed you’d know most of those dogs could climb a 10ft fence easy. Trust me when I say those “poor pups some of the reviews are taking about” are anything but mistreated. What kind of high energy snow dog wouldn’t want to run miles a day and sleep in the snow?! Getting that cleared up…. I want to say I highly recommend this place. So, If you’re boujee stay in vail this is not the place for you. But, If you’re down to earth and want an awesome experience DEFINITELY sign up for this experience IT’S A FREAKING BLAST!

The dogs are so cute! They barked and barked until we got going and then just ran! The lead dogs seemed to communicate the whole way which was so fun to watch. They all seemed very well taken care of and happy. This place is old-school Colorado! Nice people, amazing scenery, fun activity. Having the dogs separated keeps them from fighting! In the summer they are taken to an area where they will have a few months off and stay cool since they are bred to do this work and can overheat. Many of them are racing dogs. Well worth the trip!

We had a great time and our 9 and 13 year olds were thrilled to get a chance to be the musher! Tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. The kids had a great experience and this was so convenient for us while staying in Leadville. It is not bougie at all—if you need that don’t come here you’ll be disappointed.

We loved it! We've been wanting to dogsled for years and finally had the opportunity to try it out. We absolutely enjoyed the experience, from meeting and greeting the dogs, to actually driving the sled with the dogs, to the beautiful scenery! In addition, our tour guide Braun was kind and informative. I would recommend this activity and would do it again.
