About the Company
Sun Sports was founded in 1994 by Harry Hewes. Since then, our passion for water sports and the lifestyle that has evolved from it has continued to grow. We ride the wakeboards, waterskis and paddleboards that we sell. We wear the clothing and sunglasses that we display. We are happy to tell you what we think about them. Our commitment to the sport and our customers is obvious. The knowledge of our staff is our most valuable asset in what we do.
Our mission as a pro shop is to bring the most innovative, cutting edge products to you, and to provide you with the knowledge you need to make the correct purchase decision. Whether you are looking for waterskis, wakeboards, sunglasses, or board shorts – we look forward to the opportunity to earn your business.
In 1999, we started the first waterski school in Maine. We offer lessons, clinics, and demos daily during the summer season.
In the fall of 2011, after 18 years in our original location, we realized we had outgrown our space. Sun Sports moved 500 feet up the street – to our current location in the former Gazebo T’s building (across from the town dock). Yes – we are still on the Naples Causeway, but we are now bigger and better than ever! This space has given us the opportunity to expand into new retail categories, including paddle boarding. Harry & Kirsten run SunSports+ with their two kids and great retail team along with the best instructors in Maine!
About the Team
Harry Hewes - I am the owner of Sun Sports in Naples, Maine, and founded Sun Sports Wake and Ski School in 1999. My passion for watersports shows in the school’s approach to teaching. I have spent the past 18 years teaching people – from beginners to experts – how to have fun on the water while improving their skills. If you already know how to ski or wakeboard, I will take you to the next level.
Zach - Hey! I’m Zach. I have lived my whole life in Casco, Maine on Pleasant Lake. I have been waterskiing, wakeboarding, and wakesurfing since a very young age. I go to school at USM in Portland where I study biology. In my free time I love to surf, freestyle ski, and travel. Look forward to seeing you out on the water!
Ron - I grew up on the pristine lakes of Maine. I have enjoyed waterskiing, wakeboarding and wakesurfing for years. I find great joy in sharing my love of water sports with others and am a skilled and patient coach. I have honed my teaching skills with 23 years of experience as a ski and snowboard instructor in winter. It’s the perfect balance to my summer work driving the state of the art Sun Sports boat while lending my personal skills to encourage the success of all those who want to find happiness on the water.

Wakeboarding has been around for about 20 years now and its still getting better and better! Wakeboarding is essentially the equivalent of snowboarding on the water. A boat and driver along with a spotter will tow you along and the idea is to pop up and swing one foot in front of the other. One of the more difficult water sports to figure out but hey! If you need a lesson we've got you covered.

Water skiing is the equivalent of snow skiing but on the water! Pros are that its super fun AND you don't have to deal with the cold. Water skiing involves being behind the boat with a driver, spotter, and yourself! With two skis in front of you, you have all the opportunity to try and get up. Waterskis are probably the second easiest water sport to get into compared to wakeboarding and kneeboarding.
