Mr. Roy W. from United Kingdom travelled on 10 May 2017:

To finish off our total NYC tour, we'll head to the East Village, one of the main nightlife districts, to visit some of the best cocktail bars in the city. We'll explore historic and modern speakeasies and talk about the history of the cocktail, prohibition, and gangsters. Finally, we'll delve into the more recent craft cocktail movement that has taken the city by storm and created the best cocktail culture in the world, right here in NYC.

Your Trip: For your Urban Adventure you will be in a small group of a maximum of 12 people.

From there, we'll venture up into the Lower East Side, once New York's poorest neighborhood but today a thriving and fashionable district with local restaurants, bars, and shops. We'll explore its legacy as an immigrant neighborhood, visiting the Chinatown, Little Italy, and old Jewish and German quarters and stopping along the way into local shops run by members of these communities.

From the Lower East Side we'll then head up to Midtown, where we'll take in the bright lights of Broadway. We'll make our way across Midtown and you'll spot several of the most famous buildings and sites in the city, including Grand Central, Rockefeller Center, and Bryant Park.

Our Midtown tour will end with a pint of local craft beer at one of our favorite bars — which is great preparation for our last activity of the day: a cocktail tour!

Most visitors to NYC don't realize there are loads of hidden indie shops tucked away throughout Midtown, so we're going to give you the local treatment and stop in at a few. You'll find out where to get the best food in Midtown so you're not suck eating at mediocre chain restaurants.

Dress standard: Please dress comfortably for the weather, but also note that the last part of the tour visits cocktail bars, which may not allow you to wear shorts or t-shirts. You may want to bring a change of clothing if you decide to wear shorts or a t-shirt.

And throughout your entire day, all along the way, you'll have access to our local expert guide, who can be your ultimate resource, with tips on where to eat, what to see, what not to do, and how to navigate the city for the rest of your stay in NYC.

Exclusions: Additional food and drinks, souvenirs and items of a personal nature, tips/gratuities for your guide.

We'll stop at three different bars and have a cocktail at each, and by the end of it all you'll be ready to head into the New York City night and dance until dawn! (If you're not exhausted from so much awesome touring, that is).

Child Policy: Travellers under 21 years of age are not permitted on this tour.

On a recent visit to New York, I booked two tours with Urban Adventures. The first, "Tenements, Tales, and Tastes", was with David on the morning of the first day in NYC. It was a really special introduction to the city that I was about to spend four days exploring. We toured the neighbourhoods where NYC started, sampling delicious food along the way. It was fun, informative, all the things the best tours should be. Highly recommended. The second, the "Craft Cocktail" tour in the East Village was with Joshua, and on my final night in town. I was joined on the tour by two New York locals, so I guess that goes to show how valuable the knowledge of the guide can be! We visited three bars, enjoyed cocktails and delicious snacks and heard fascinating stories about prohibition and NYC bar culture. Also a great tour. Many thanks to both Dave and Josh for their friendly and professional service, and for sharing their enthusiasm for their city.

Superb walking tour, Josh was very informative and Brooklyn is a great place We had some beers cakes sandwiches snacks in fact so much that we didn't need Dinner that night! Book this tour you won't be disappointed Thanks Spencer and Jan

Brian was GREAT. Tour was GREAT. All stops were very good. Although the soda fountain place was cute and had an interesting story, the egg creme was not to our liking. And quite frankly, a little heavy after all the other great food and drink.

The tour was a little heavy on breads and bakeries. Would have liked a little more culinary balance.

Mr. Stephen P. from Australia travelled on 24 Aug 2016:

We visit both old school haunts and new culinary entrepreneurs to experience an exciting menu of both traditional flavors and daring dishes. We stop into Italian and Middle Eastern shops that have long been the staple of the neighborhood, and explore the growing scene of cafes and restaurants specializing in New American cuisine. While we enjoy their delicacies, we learn about the neighborhood's rich history and changing character from the local business owners and residents themselves.

Mr. Alex B. from USA travelled on 07 Feb 2017:

Discover the delicious mom-and-pop shops and restaurants of Brooklyn to experience how food is the engine of our local ecosystem.  Brooklyn's Smith and Court Streets and surrounding neighborhoods have a vibrant mix of small, locally-owned, and artisanal food shops unlike almost any other neighborhood in America. On this Brooklyn food tour, you find out how these unique spots came to be, and with a local guide you discover just what it is that makes them special.

Fantastic tour with a great guide (Brian). Lots of different taste tests with plenty to eat and drink and great history of the area and the small businesses that make it so interesting

Josh was an excellent guide and it was good that he lived in the area we were exploring. It gave us an different prespective on life in New York for the usual Manhattan based trips. Will definitely revisit Brooklyn on our next trip.

Great experience with a great guide. Saw places and experienced Brooklyn like never before.

Very friendly shops. Eclectic food tour. Knowledgeable guide.

Brian was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. He also made sure the group and the tour stayed organized.

From artisan cheese and bread shops, Italian pastry stores, cafes with coffee roasters, the oldest Middle Eastern bakery in NYC, and a modern soda fountain, this NYC food tour couldn't get more unique if it tried. The shops and food in this area have been featured in press and TV all around the world, from Australia to France, and is by consensus the best food neighborhood in NYC. So definitely come hungry!
