Isak Heartstone Is Back!

Isak Heartstone - Our beloved wooden troll is back! In a new location with a new look

Isak Heartstone is back and ready to see visitors! In a new and improved location that can handle higher traffic

Should you be in the mountains this weekend be sure to take a walk in the woods out near the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. Beware though...rumor has it that a 15ft wooden troll is roaming in the woods looking for friends to take pictures with. In all seriousness; Isak Heartstone made his way into Breckenridge last year and was essentially discovered by word of mouth. The creator, Thomas Dambo, creates these hidden gems all over the world and Breckenridge was lucky enough to receive one of his creative constructions. Named for a heart-shaped stone, local kids, discovered Isak stood out in all impressive ways. Isak was tall, he was beautifully built, he was made out of all reclaimed wood, and he really helped bring a touch of art to a dredge rock filled area outside the Wellington neighborhood. However, not all citizens were excited about the location Thomas decided upon for Isaks home. After an entire summer of increased traffic to this area of town, a certain set of locals within the neighborhood were less than happy with the increase in traffic.

This inevitably leads to the end of Isak and he was taken down last fall. In a major cry for help from the other 99% of town; the people wanted more. They weren't satisfied with this small group of people getting their way in the removal of Isak Heartstone. The solution? Move him. Take him down and rebuild him someplace where he can stay and more people can see the creation and that's just what they did. Isak now sits perched amongst the trees behind the Stephen C. West Ice Arena where the Breckenridge Freeride has a stop, includes plenty of parking, and still sits along a trail so bikes and hikers alike can just stroll upon the figure. I think one of Thomas Dambos main movements was that he didn't want a giant press release where people flocked on a certain time on a certain day. I truly believe that Dambo wanted people to organically come across Isak as organically as he was constructed. Thomas was creating something he felt was beautiful and would make people happy. He wasn't creating it for money or for it to be torn down but at the end of the day in today's world, some sacrifices need to be made. Enjoy Isak, He is about a 15-minute walk from downtown Breckenridge, a short bike ride away, or if you want to take the bus he lies just a short walk into the woods of Breckenridge. - Photo Credit Hugh Carey

My personal recommendation is to get a bike from Ridden Breckenridge Bike Rentals or Pedego bike Rentals
