Halloween is tomorrow?

Halloween is tomorrow but you certainly wouldn't think so with these temps!

Tomorrow is the spookiest day of the year but with all this snow you'd think Christmas is the upcoming Holiday!

With October 31st finally here, I have to imagine that some have mixed feelings about tomorrow's weather. We've been in a rather chilly cold spell for the past few days but I can't help but think that we will receive another round of fall. With that being said, one of the biggest days in fall, Halloween, is happening tomorrow! Got a good outfit picked out? Going out? or not? I dabbled a bit this past Saturday but more importantly, I spent time in Austin, TX. I was able to take a great segway tour with Gliding Revolution Tours and get a real feel for the city of Austin. It involved history, haunted houses, great sights, and got the chance to rip around on some segway's with a buddy!

Another highlight of Austin was meeting with the head of a business called SkiSync based out of Austin and they specialize in building the very best in group ski travel. Whether you're trying to come to Breckenridge or hed to Sugarloaf in Maine, SkiSync can take care of all your travel needs! We can't wait to get ready to work with SkiSync and take their guests on bike tours within Breckenridge. it's interesting, we've worked with a ton of corporate ski groups and this really has been turning into a bigger portion of our business. Being able to show a small group your town is a great feeling and being able to share that with more people is as equally great as being able to cater to groups of that size. Showing somebody around your town is a unique feeling that comes with a certain reward, the fact that somebody is experiencing their first time in your neck of the woods and you're the one able to show them everything you find great. Corporate groups struggle at times because a lot of businesses have issues meeting the fulfillment needs of, at times, 50-300 people. While some businesses will walk entirely away from corporate groups due to the logistics of planning and possible discounts; Ridden Gear welcomes larger groups and will always do their best to accommodate the larger groups.

What's coming up though? What's the next big thing about to happen? One of the biggest happenings right now is the fact that Breckenridge ski resort is set to OPEN soon. The date as of now; is Nov. 8th but all the recent snow has put us in a position for an early opening. With what happened over at A-basin and keystone, regarding A Basin's sneak attack of an earlier opening it doesn't seem all that unlikely that all the resorts in the area will take their stab at opening ahead of time. Breckenridge is already posting pictures about the solid base, I am seeing the videos of the locals of having skinned up and made the turns down. This time of year is very special to most residents of Breckenridge, It brings the sense of early mornings ripping up the snow, the money bustling with visitors and the shop owners making their winter cut of the pie. Shops are starting to see the rentals swing, the restaurants picking up on weekends, and the feeling of the day to day operations that fuel the mountain town culture.

Breckenridge is a world-class ski resort and town that can at times feel like it's packed to the brim. Some ways to get out of hustle and bustle are easier than you'd think though. I'd like to touch upon some of the survival tips you should think about when making your trip to Breckenridge, especially, during peak season. The first is - How should I get here? Take a shuttle or rent a car but try your best to not travel on Friday nights or Sunday afternoons as you'll be sure to hit plentiful skier traffic. The second and third could probably be a tie but let's dish it out. Don't go to the grocery store after skiing and be SURE to download the passport parking app. Once upon a time, Breckenridge had restricted parking; now like many other ski areas you can find paid parking. Yeesh, I know. Nonetheless, such is life, download the app and plan your parking strategically. You may think some of these are obvious, however, at peak season these rules could not be more important. Go food shopping at 10:00 AM, hardly drive your car, Breck has a free bus shuttle that is absolutely so convenient. 

This one may sound a little out there but it's also crucial to have the best vacation. Weekends on the mountain are busy in Breckenridge; Really busy. If you can choose to ski elsewhere I would recommend heading over to Keystone or taking some time to enjoy one of the many other great activities in Breckenridge. Another great spot to check out is the Breckenridge Nordic Skiing Center. It's an absolutely beautiful facility with tons of trails and the Nordic center also offers snowcat tours and snowshoe tours! It's a great way to get outside for a little better price but still enjoy all Breck scenery that it has to offer. The next on my list would probably be Alpine Adventures DogsleddingWhich is located about 45 minutes away from Breckenridge near Leadville, CO. Alpine Adventures offers group tours or fully dog driven tours that are a blast and really give you a sense of 'how things used to be' and adding this to your Colorado vacation will certainly not miss the mark.

At the end of the day Breckenridge and the mountain towns thrive on these snowy winter seasons. When the high-country receives a lot of snow it is great for everyone. The shops in town, the ski resorts, the rafting companies from the snowmelt, and the forests that don't have to deal with a drought. Bring on the snow ULLR (he's another story)
